Walk through the beautiful Tarn Howes, surrounded by woodland and offering breathtaking views of the Langdale Pikes. Consider a short detour to Colwith Falls, then cross the River Brathay near Skelwith Force waterfall. Pass through the picturesque village of Elterwater and finish the day with stunning views of the Langdale Pikes.

Begin by traversing the lower slopes of the Langdale Pikes, climbing towards Mart Crag Moor. Take a detour to Black Moss Pot, a favourite spot for wild swimming, before continuing through Greenup Gill and Rosthwaite. Follow the River Derwent through the scenic Jaws of Borrowdale to Derwentwater, and enjoy the lakeside path or ferry to Keswick.

Choose between the high-level route over High Pike (2157 ft / 658 m) with panoramic views extending to Scotland, or the gentler low-level route skirting the fells. Both options lead to the historic village of Caldbeck, home to the 12th-century St Kentigern’s Church and the grave of local huntsman John Peel.

Cross the river near St Kentigern’s Church and follow peaceful riverside paths along the River Caldew through Sebergham. Pass Rose Castle, the residence of the Bishop of Carlisle, then rejoin the river and Hadrian’s Wall Path, finishing at the Market Cross in Carlisle.
